You read that right, I think you should gossip more.
NOT the kind you’re probably thinking of. Gossip is a pretty destructive force in group life. It erodes trust, destroys relationships, and pits people against one another.
I’m not talking about that kind of gossip.
I’m talking about an idea I recently practiced called “Positive Gossip.” Instead of saying all the things you don’t like about someone, it’s the idea of talking good about them behind their back.
I went through a group exercise recently where we broke into teams and practiced Positive Gossip about other team members and it was extraordinary!
If negative gossip creates a toxic work environment, imagine what positive gossip could do! A team that only speaks highly and positively of one another is going to build trust, a good reputation, good morale, and create good relationships between team members – an overall better and positive work environment.
