It’s common for organizations the world over to have rulebooks, or company policy manuals.
Have you ever found those inspiring?
I haven’t, and your people don’t either.
There may be a time and place for a “rulebook”, but what if you re-imagined that and developed a CultureBook instead?
It’s something I’ve been helping clients develop for their organizations, and we also have one of our own.
A CultureBook answers questions like, “Who are we? What do we believe? How do we do stuff around here?”
Think of it as Principles not Rules. Here are some ways it’s helpful:
-
Practical – can be used for determining a good fit for hiring, or for training and development
-
Builds proactive culture
-
Can be inspiring and clarifying for the entire organization to be “on the same page” when often people are operating on different assumptions
Here are 3 Examples you can use for inspiration:
-
Netflix culture of Freedom & Responsibility
-
Buffer’s Culture of Radical Transparency
-
CloudSherpa ‘s Culture Deck
As you’ll see, there’s no “one way” to do this.
